SNORKELING OFF OF NUSA PENIDA!

Today was AMAZING!  John and I were picked up WAY TOO EARLY (7AM to be exact) for a day of snorkeling!  We were driven to Sanur, where we boarded our “Fastboat” over to the island of Nusa Penida.

Thankfully, this guy WAS NOT our captain—just a helper!  😳

The “Fastboat” ride to the island lasted 45 minutes.  Once we arrived, we were divided into three groups and put on smaller boats.  Let’s just say, there were some mighty BIG waves to plow through!  We passed by some mighty high cliffs as well!  Our first stop was Manta Bay.  OHMYGOODNESS, we snorkeled with BIGGEST Manta Rays EVER!  We are waiting on pictures taken while we snorkeled to be emailed to us—as of this morning we haven’t received them!  Darn it!  You won’t believe how huge they were!  At one time we had three giant Mantas circling us!

We snorkeled in four different coves: Manta Bay, Gamat Bay, Crystal Bay and Wall Bay.  Each area provided something different!  The coral was beautiful, the water was clear, the fish were AMAZING, and we even saw a sea turtle!  I can’t wait to see the pictures that were taken!  After a day of snorkeling, the boat brought us back to land and back to a delicious lunch!  And a beer—that iced cold Bintang never tasted better!

While this little guy WAS begging, he was begging with manners!  Seriously, these big brown eyes watched every move we made!  Such a sweetie!

The weather was overcast much of the day (perfect for snorkeling) but became quite menacing during our lunch.  We could watch the storm brewing!

Unfortunately, the storm arrived while they had us waiting on the dock to board!  We were SOAKED for the ride back to land and what a ride it was, it was!  😳😳😳

When we arrived back to Sanur, OF COURSE they didn’t pull up to a dock!  We exited the good old Bali way—right back into the water for a walk to shore!

It was certainly a day to remember!  We were too exhausted to eat out, (I was showered and jammied up by 6:30PM), so John went down the street (in the pouring rain, bless his heart) and picked up a pizza!  There’s nothing quite like an evening in, watching it rain in our little tropical paradise!  Yes, it was certainly a day to remember!  And we will remember it WAY BETTER when our photos arrive!

David did a few dives in that area but couldn’t get to where you were as it was too rough. You were lucky and a bit brave. Well don Team Deeds!

Thanks, Gill! Not quite sure we should have been in a couple of those coves ourselves!!!
