VIENTIANE, LAOS!

We arrived yesterday in Vientiane, where we will be for the next two weeks!  We have a nice boutique hotel room here, as there were no good Airbnb’s to be had while we were planning our stay!  Our hotel has a great location, with an AMAZING massage shop right across the street!  (Yes, we did partake!  It was the first thing we did after we unpacked!)

We learned quickly that Tuk Tuk’s will be our means of transportation here!  No Grab in Laos, darn it!

We “grabbed” our first ride to a new mall that just opened.  We needed to pick up a few incidentals, and heard about this mall from a couple we met on the street from (now, get this) Massachusetts!

We were scanned for fevers upon entry!  I forgot to mention that, when we arrived at the airport here, every passenger was scanned!  Like I said, EVERYONE is taking precautions!

We randomly walked around the town, taking in the sights!

We finally stopped for a local beer (YUM!) and, you guessed it, Peking Duck!  We also ordered Morning Glory — a fabulous vegetable in this part of the world!  DELICIOUS!

We got to bed EARLY as we only had a couple of hours of sleep the night before.  Then up the next morning for a Tuk Tuk ride to mass!  (Now THAT’s a first!). This church was delightful and THREE priests led the service!

After mass we decided to walk around and stumbled on this Morning Market!

As we walked back to our hotel, we ran into this dog (we affectionately named him Bud) laying in the gutter sunning himself.  This is clearly his spot—he was laying there when we passed by yesterday!

When it was getting close to dinner time, we went for a walk to see That Dam Stupa.  The surrounding area was delightful, with bars and shops and restaurants!

We found our first liquor store and bought some wine and cheese.  Then walked next door and enjoyed a glass of wine at ThatDam Wine House, which overlooked That Dam Stupa!

A restaurant called Khop Chai Deu had been recommended to us and we found it in another cute part of town.  John and I both ordered a full Laos meal (one was $9.60 and one was $12.60).

Clearly, these dinners were meant for sharing!  OMG, the trays would hardly fit on the table!  We LOVED everything on both platters, but could only make it through half!

Walking back to the hotel we passed by a ton of places offering massages!  And since we were soooo stuffed from dinner, we had one for dessert—a massage, that is!

Clearly, this was the PERFECT way to end our first full day in Vientiane, Laos!
